We have created this page in hopes of helping you understand the
process of adopting one of our puppies and to learn more about us. We
don't breed just to produce puppies to sell. Our goal in breeding is to
improve with each generation and hopefully keep a puppy from a
breeding to carry on our lines. Unfortunately not every puppy from a
litter is going to turn out show quality, so we place those pet quality
puppies in approved homes with an agreement that they will be
spayed/neutered. If a show home is interested in the lines that we
breed, we do occasionally sell a show prospect into an established
show home on an individual basis. We do not however sell our puppies
as breeding stock only. If you don't share the same goals and ethics
that we do, please do not ask about a puppy for breeding purposes.
You will only be wasting my time and yours.
Pet quality does not mean that your puppy is second quality. We feel
that breeding should only be done with dogs that are as close to the
breed standard as possible and possess traits that make a dachshund,
a dachshund. Dachshunds are a very popular breed and many
unethical breeders are taking away those dachshund traits by breeding
dogs that should not be bred simply to put money in their pockets. This
is breeding that is done cheaply and you get what you pay for by
purchasing this type of dog. For the most part these breeders are not
aware of correct dachshund traits, health issues, and structure. When
we place a puppy as pet quality, this puppy will still be a quality puppy
that we simply feel isn't cut out for showing/breeding. He or she will
still make a terrific family member for many years.
We also feel responsible for all puppies that we breed and will be there
to answer questions for the life of your puppy. We will take back any
dachshund we have bred for lifetime if re-homing becomes necessary
for whatever reason.
We raise our dachshunds naturally on a raw diet and with limited
vaccines. We have become all too aware of what too many vaccines
can do to a dog. Commercial kibbles and canned foods can also be very
unhealthy which is why we have chosen to feed our dogs as nature
intended by feeding them raw food. This has done wonders for the
health of our dogs over the past years. I send home each puppy family
with a packet of information to help you understand why we raise our
dogs this way. We give preference to families that are at least willing
to learn about this and consider raising their puppy this way. We only
want what is best for our puppies. It is a joy for us to see improvements
over each generation of being raised more naturally.
If you are interested in a TAC Dachshund puppy, you will be asked to fill
out a questionnaire. Please don't be offended by this. This helps us to
decide if you are the type of individual or family compatible with a
dachshund. Dachshunds are wonderful, cute, low shedding, and
comical, but they also have some negative traits as well. Because of
this, dachshunds are not for everyone. No one should adopt a dog
based on looks or what one person tells them about the breed. You
need to take into consideration what is common in this breed and if this
will work well for your home, schedule and family members. You also
have to consider the time that will need to be spent on your part in
properly raising your puppy. Do you have time to properly socialize
your puppy??
Socialization is VERY important to consider with a puppy. We feel that
early socialization helps to round the puppy into a well adjusted adult.
As a breeder we spend many hours a day with our puppies by exposing
them to many different situations, sites, sounds, and smells. When they
reach 5wks of age, they are also exposed to many different people of all
ages and we start taking them places. It is critical that you continue this
with your puppy once he or she goes home with you. What puppies
are exposed to during their first 4 months of life will make or break their
ability to handle everyday experiences in life. An unsocialized puppy is
not one that is fun to live with!!!!!
Once your questionaire has been approved, you can either proceed
with adopting one of our available puppies or be placed on a waiting list
for an upcoming litter. Typically we have waiting lists months in
advance. Having a healthy, well adjusted puppy that will be a family
member for many years is worth the wait. I will work with you to help
place a puppy in your home that matches your lifestyle and personality.
Color and gender is really not as important as temperament when you
are adopting a pet.
If puppies have arrived and you want to place a deposit on a puppy
already born, deposits are $200 and also non-refundable. Please think
this commitment over carefully. I have many inquiries about puppies
each day and when you commit to a puppy, I am turning away many
other potentially good homes. Deposits can be made by personal
check, money order or by Paypal. Balance can be paid by personal
check at least 10 days prior to pick-up of your puppy or money
order/cash on pick-up day.
We will keep you up to date with pictures and info as your puppy grows.
I allow puppy visitors once puppies reach 5wks of age, not before, so
please don't ask. Your puppy will then be ready for his/her new home
between 9-10wks of age. You will receive a packet of information on
caring for your puppy several weeks before this date. Please read
through this and feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I
want the transition from our home to yours to be as stress-free as
possible for you and the puppy. If you are well prepared, there should
be minimal stress. I will send your puppy home with some food if
needed, health records, contract, and a few essentials to get you
started. AKC papers are forwarded to you once proof of spay/neuter
has been received.
NOTE: Since we are a small show home, our show puppies are chosen
from each litter first before I offer pet puppies. I need to evaluate the
puppies as they grow to see which ones are showing possible show
potential.
